Today is State Sovereignty Day in Azerbaijan.

Operativ Media  reports that on September 19, 2023, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces launched local anti-terrorist measures in Karabakh.

The operation was initiated to ensure the provisions of the trilateral statement, prevent large-scale provocations in the Karabakh economic region, disarm and withdraw Armenian armed forces formations from Azerbaijani territories, neutralize their military infrastructure, guarantee the safety of civilians returning to the liberated territories, as well as civilian workers and military personnel involved in reconstruction efforts, and restore the country's constitutional order.

During the operation, which lasted just 23 hours and 43 minutes, front-line and deep positions, long-term firing points, combat assets, and military facilities of the Armenian armed forces formations were neutralized using high-precision weapons.

As a result, Armenian separatists were forced to raise a white flag.

On September 20, 2023, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev addressed the nation. The head of state announced that Azerbaijan's sovereignty had been restored as a result of the successful completion of the local anti-terrorist measures. Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijani soldiers and officers once again demonstrated both high professionalism and high moral qualities.

Consequently, as a result of the anti-terrorist measures carried out in less than 24 hours, the Armenian army illegally stationed in Azerbaijani territory was completely disarmed and withdrew from the country.

The illegal junta regime in Karabakh was dissolved, and the main leaders of the separatists were arrested as a result of measures taken by Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies.

Thus, state sovereignty and constitutional order were restored across all territories of Azerbaijan.

On September 19, 2024, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree establishing State Sovereignty Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to the document, State Sovereignty Day is celebrated on September 20.
