Today is Khankendi, Khojaly, Khojavend and Aghdara City Day
Today marks the city day of Khankendi, Khojaly, Khojavend, and Aghdara.
Operativ Media reports that this day is being celebrated for the third time in Azerbaijan.
According to a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on September 18, 2024, Khankendi, Khojaly, Khojavend, and Aghdara Day is solemnly celebrated every year on September 20.
The establishment of this landmark day is associated with the disarmament and withdrawal of the remnants of the Armenian armed forces and illegal armed groups from Azerbaijani territories. Thus, today marks three years since the cities of Khankendi, Khojaly, Khojavend, and Aghdara were cleared of Armenian separatists.
On October 15, 2023, President Ilham Aliyev visited the city of Khankendi, as well as the Khojavend, Shusha, Khojaly, and Aghdara districts, visited the Asgaran fortress, and raised the Azerbaijani flag there.
Speaking in Khankendi on that date, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that it was a historic day:
"We worked tirelessly to strengthen our army. We created such a strong army that today the Azerbaijani Armed Forces can honorably fulfill any task, and we proved this on the battlefield. Both three years ago during the Patriotic War, when we forced the enemy to sign an act of capitulation in just 44 days, and last month, when the anti-terror operation lasting only 23 hours demonstrated our strength, and once again the enemy raised the white flag and surrendered. We are rightfully proud of our Armed Forces."
