President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to the country, Tiina Nirk, on September 23.

Operativ Media reports that the ambassador presented her credentials to the head of state.

President Ilham Aliyev held a conversation with the ambassador.

The head of state highlighted the importance of reciprocal visits and contacts at various levels in expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and Estonia.

Emphasizing the development of Azerbaijan-European Union relations, President Ilham Aliyev noted the visits to the country this year by President of the European Council Antonio Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.

The head of state wished the ambassador success in her future activities.

Expressing her honor at being appointed as Estonia's first ambassador to Azerbaijan, Tiina Nirk emphasized that she would work diligently to develop relations between the two countries, as well as between Azerbaijan and the European Union.

Noting Azerbaijan's significant position in the Middle Corridor, the ambassador stated that there is strong potential to expand partnerships in many areas, including political dialogue, business, information technology, logistics, and other sectors.

Tiina Nirk also touched upon the broad opportunities for cooperation in the field of education, noting that nearly 200 Azerbaijani students are currently studying in Estonia.

The ambassador also highly valued the humanitarian aid provided by Azerbaijan to Ukraine.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the opening of the Estonian Embassy in Azerbaijan would make a significant contribution to the further development of bilateral relations. The activities of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Trade Cooperation were also addressed, and issues of mutual interest were discussed.
